<title>Ethics in Public Health: Global Trade and Public Health</title>

<description>Ethics in Public Health: Global Trade and Public Health
Shaffer, Ellen R.; Waitzkin, Howard; Brenner, Joseph; Jasso-Aguilar, Rebecca
Global trade and international trade agreements have transformed the capacity of governments to monitor and to protect&#13;
public health, to regulate occupational and environmental health conditions and food&#13;
products, and to ensure affordable access to medications. Proposals under negotiation for the World Trade Organization’s General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS) and the regional Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) agreement cover a wide range of health services, health facilities, clinician licensing, water and sanitation services, and tobacco and alcohol distribution services. Public health professionals and organizations rarely participate in trade negotiations or&#13;
in resolution of trade disputes. The linkages among global trade, international trade agreements, and public health deserve&#13;
more attention than they have received to date. Published at: http://www.ajph.org/cgi/content/full/95/1/23?view=long&amp;pmid=15623854

<title>The health impacts of globalisation: a conceptual framework</title>
<link>https://bibliodigital.saludpublica.uchile.cl/dspace/handle/123456789/236</link>
<description>The health impacts of globalisation: a conceptual framework
Hueynen, Maud MTE; Martins, Pim; Hilderink, Henk BM
This paper describes a conceptual framework for the health implications of globalisation. The framework is developed by first identifying the main determinants of population health and the main&#13;
features of the globalisation process. The resulting conceptual model explicitly visualises that globalisation affects the institutional, economic, social-cultural and ecological determinants of population health, and that the globalisation process mainly operates at the contextual level, while influencing health through its more distal and proximal determinants. The developed framework provides valuable insights in how to organise the complexity involved in studying the health effects&#13;
resulting from globalisation. It could, therefore, give a meaningful contribution to further empirical research by serving as a 'think-model' and provides a basis for the development of future scenarios&#13;
on health. Published at: http://www.globalizationandhealth.com/content/1/1/14

<title>Public goods, global public goods and the common good.</title>
<link>https://bibliodigital.saludpublica.uchile.cl/dspace/handle/123456789/235</link>
<description>Public goods, global public goods and the common good.
Denuelin, Severine; Townsend, Nicholas
Public economics has recently introduced the concept of global public&#13;
goods as a new category of public goods whose provision is central for&#13;
promoting the well-being of individuals in today's globalized world. This&#13;
paper examines the extent to which introducing this new concept in&#13;
international development is helpful for understanding human well-being&#13;
enhancement. It argues that the concept of global public goods could be&#13;
more effective if the conception of well-being it assumes is broadened&#13;
beyond the individual level. 'Living well' or the 'good life' does not dwell in&#13;
individual lives only, but also in the lives of communities which human&#13;
beings form. A successful provision of global public goods depends on this&#13;
recognition that the 'good life' of the communities that people form is a&#13;
constitutive component of the 'good life' of individual human beings. The&#13;
paper considers some implications of the concept of the common good for&#13;
international development, and suggests that the rediscovery of this&#13;
concept, and identification of how to nurture the common good, constitute&#13;
one of the major tasks for development theory and policy. Published at: http://www.welldev.org.uk/research/working.htm
